Dog Obedience Training Guidelines

If dog obedience training is to be effective it is important that you follow the correct guidelines. There must be a clear set of rules from the beginning as we do not want to confuse the dog.

A schedule must be defined which you must try your hardest to stick to it.

Dog obedience training should be consistent to make it easier for the dog to learn. You must always be clear on what is acceptable and what isn't.

Don't expect instant results the commands and required responses must be repeated in order for the training to work

Remember that reward and praise for the correct response are essential. You need to make sure that your dog understands that they have done what was expected.

Dog obedience training session need to be short and to the point to keep them interesting for both you and the dog. A bored dog is not going to be very receptive.

Do not rush the obedience training. Start with one command and when the dog has mastered it you can move on to the next command.

Timing is one of the most important parts of dog obedience training. You must not correct the dog unless it is at the time of the unacceptable behavior. Always remember to reward if the correction is obeyed.

Make sure that you make the obedience training fun for both the dog and yourself.
