Initial Puppy Training

The initial puppy training is going to lay the foundation for later obedience training.

Puppies are pack animals and they have just been removed from one pack and placed into another. Usually when a puppy is introduced into a new pack it will act submissively by rolling onto its back or even urinating. This is to show that it is not a threat. It is important that you do not punish or scold the puppy for something like submissive urination as this could make the problem worse.

As the new pack leader, the puppy will be looking to your for guidance on how to behave and act in certain situations.

Getting Started

The first step you will need to take in puppy training is getting and keeping the puppies’ attention. Puppies will respond to the one of your voice not what you say to them as they have not learnt to associate words yet. Make sure your tone is high and happy. This is more likely to attract attention. Once you can successfully get and keep your puppies’ attention you can begin the puppy training.
